About my book “Privilege, Power and Place”

About my book “Privilege, Power and Place”

My interest in the power of the upper class to control their neighborhood was investigated with my first book, Privilege, Power and Place: The Geography of the American Upper Class. Cover of “Priviledge, Power and Place” by Stephen R. HigleyThis work was the culmination of several years of research in pursuit of my Doctorate at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. By using the 1988 Social Register as a source of data, I investigated the locational choices of the 32,398 upper class families listed in the book by neighborhood. If you are interested in the definitive guide to where America’s upper class lives and where they maintain their second, third, and fourth homes, this book is for you!

This book was originally published in 1995 by Rowman & Littlefield. Amazingly, the book is still available from Amazon.com at this link:
